The Java Pen- Video

A few months back, I wrote about the remarkable calligraphy pen known as the Java reed. A type of Indonesian thorn-grass, the pen is known for its ability to retain a sharp edge after much writing. I made a video of the Java reed writing, the first in a series of videos I will be posting on pens for Arabic and Islamic calligraphy.

  1. Thanks Josh.
You might like to know that I have been experimenting with commercially cut Clarinet and Sax reeds with some success.
I find that with an added reservoir cut from photographic film, I can get more strokes per dip.
    Cheers.
    Bill.
